Saddles with Brass Hardware

Saddles were used by the ancient Greeks, by the Chinese and the Romans. The Western Saddle is a direct descendent from the Spanish Vaquero saddles used in Mexico. These saddles have not changed much in the century that it has been used by cowboys throughout these years. It is a saddle that through the necessity of “living one’s life” in it has to be comfortable. Therefore the rider rides deep in the saddle and it is built so that the cowboy stays in it under the extreme movement of the work he does.

Basically, there are two kinds of saddles. Pleasure or multiple usage saddles and specific usage saddles like roping saddles, Cutting Saddles and barrel racing saddles. Roping has been staple of the Western cowboy. We sell many types of Western horse saddle on our website. Our Western saddle and tack include discount saddles and used saddles. We carry Western horse saddles and the hardware for saddles on our horse tack site. One thing you may want to use with your saddle is a breast collar. One thing to remember is not to tighten it too tight, it is not a replacement for a bad fitting saddle.

There are a few basic rules for saddling that a good horseman/horsewoman should obey. Always groom your horse before you saddle him. When you put the saddle blanket on, put it on in a forward position and then slide it back into place so that the hairs of the horse lay in the growth direction. This keeps from hurting the horse. Never put the saddle on the ground while you are waiting to saddle the horse. The last thing you want is dirt and grit under the saddle, girth (cinch) and straps which rub against the horse. Keep the saddle clean. Never throw the saddle on the horse, put it on the horse gently, so as not to scare or hurt the horse. Make sure the straps and stirrups aren’t dangling down so that they hit the horse as you saddle him. Don’t yank the cinch tightly and don’t cinch the horse too tightly. Tighten the cinch straps slowly. And, when you finish your ride, make sure you clean and nourish all the horse tack that you use thoroughly. Examine it for any problems like loose parts or excessive wear. This is not only necessary for good riding, but it makes it enjoyable for you and your horse.
