Snaffle Bit

We offer a variety of horse tack bits such as the snaffle bit, show bit and curb bit. This includes the egg butt bit and the Tom Thumb draft horse bit. There are a number of different kinds of snaffle bits such as the egg butt. We are currently expanding our product line to include some of the other kinds, such as a curb bit and Pelham bit.

The horse bit has been around since the Roman times and have been used in Asia long before that. These bits were made of bronze and iron. They were quite decorative, using animals and crosses at the rings. These include the straight bar and the jointed types of bits. The bit has gotten more refined, but are basically the same as those used as far back as the Roman times. The materials have changed ranging from steel, stainless steel and bits covered in either copper giving a “sweet” taste, nickel and rubber. These different kinds of horse tack bits, such as steel or lighter metals make a difference in how soft the bit is in the horses mouth and how they wear in usage. The softer metals obviously don’t wear as long.

There are a number of styles to choose from, however snaffle bits are most often and simplest to use and you can use the halter and lead as a soft hackamore. If you're a novice, you'll find the snaffle is best for your inexperience. There is an integral relationship between the bit, bridle and the reins and it is this direct relationship with your hands that guide the bit bridle horse and tell him what exactly you want of him. There are a number of issues of comfort that the horse is aware of. Is there enough space for the tongue? Do the horse bits allow the tongue to work its way over the bit? Does the bit rub the side of the lips? In some situations a bit can irritate the skin or pinch the sides of the horse’s mouth. These things happen for a number of reasons, so right size and style fitted to the particular horse are extremely important. Different horse tack bits have different tastes and create different moisture content for the horse. You will become aware of what exactly your horse prefers. Another thing you should be aware of is the condition of the bit like bubbles, cracks, sloppy craftsmanship. With rubber bits make sure there is a chain going through it and the rubber is not hard or cracked. The condition of horse tack bits has a direct relationship to the comfort and well-being, not to mention handling of bit bridle horses and should be paid attention to with great care. Afterall, you want a healthy happy horse, able to respond and communicate.
